Solar Energetic-Particle Ground-Level Enhancements and the Solar Cycle

چکیده

Severe geomagnetic storms appear to be ordered by the solar cycle in a number of ways. They occur more frequently close maximum and declining phase, are common larger cycles show different patterns occurrence odd- even-numbered cycles. Our knowledge most extreme space weather events, however, comes from spikes cosmogenic-isotope ($^{14}$C, $^{10}$Be $^{36}$Cl) records that attributed significantly energetic particle (SEP) events than have been observed during age. Despite both SEPs being driven eruptive phenomena, event-by-event correspondence between is low. Thus it should not assumed priori found for also hold events. In this study we investigate trends timing magnitude 67 SEP ground-level enhancements (GLEs) recorded neutron monitors since mid 1950s. Using models GLE probability, GLEs around factor four likely minimum, they preferentially earlier odd-numbered There insufficient data conclusively determine whether produce GLEs. Implications putative space-weather discussed. We find tend cluster within few tens days, due particularly productive individual active regions, with approximately 11-year separations, owing ordering. But these timescales do explain which require multiple over consecutive years.

Solar ultraviolet radiation on the ground level of Isfahan

Introduction: Ultraviolet (UV) radiation affects human organs such as skin, eyes and immune system, as well as animals and plants. The main natural source of UV radiation is the Sun. To study the effects of solar UV radiation there is a need to quantify variations of solar energy received on the earth surface at different intervals. Materials and Methods: To measure UV radiation a broadband fib...

Comparison of geosynchronous energetic particle flux responses to solar wind dynamic pressure enhancements and substorms

[1] Geosynchronous energetic particle fluxes are used to examine the differences and similarities between the particle disturbances due to an enhancement in solar wind dynamic pressure Pdyn and those caused by substorms. Disturbances are also distinguished by IMF conditions. First, for not strongly southward IMF conditions (weakly southward or northward IMF), we find that the magnetospheric com...

Energetic neutral atom response to solar wind dynamic pressure enhancements

[1] We have investigated the response of the ring current to solar wind dynamic pressure (Pdyn) enhancement impacts on the magnetosphere by using energetic neutral atom (ENA) images obtained by the High-Energy Neutral Atom (HENA) imager on board the IMAGE spacecraft. In this work we present several events by distinguishing between pressure events where only the pure compression effects exist (w...

Features of energetic particle radial profiles inferred from geosynchronous responses to solar wind dynamic pressure enhancements

Determination of the radial profile of phase space density of relativistic electrons at constant adiabatic invariants is crucial for identifying the source for them within the outer radiation belt. The commonly used method is to convert flux observed at fixed energy to phase space density at constant first, second and third adiabatic invariants, which requires an empirical global magnetic field...

Numerical Studies of the Solar Energetic Particle Transport and Acceleration

Solar energetic particles often get accelerated to energies up to few GeV at interplanetary shock waves driven by Coronal Mass Ejections (CMEs) and are of considerable importance for space weather studies because they can produce radiation hazards for manned or unmanned spacecraft. Particles accelerated at the shock wave can escape upstream and downstream into the interplanetary medium. As the ...
